Paul didn't want them to be troubles by
the idea, "by [reason of] the coming of our
Lord Jesus Christ and by [reason of] our
gathering together unto him."

The Day of the Lord was not present because
Christ had not come and gathered the saints
to Himself. Paul was saying that the Rapture
of the Church hadn't taken place yet.
